Volunteers from throughout Canada are being sought for the David Suzuki Foundation’s Butterflyway Project.

Butterflyway Rangers will be devoted volunteers who will work to increase wild bee and butterfly populations in neighbourhoods around the country.

“Since 2017, Butterflyway Rangers have established and maintained for thousands of native plant gardens that assist pollinators, beautify neighbourhoods, and link communities,” David Suzuki Foundation Senior Public Engagement Specialist Winnie Hwo stated in a news release on Monday. “They are a formidable force for good.”

The rangers are part of a nationwide network of pollination advocators, and will get training from staff through monthly webinars and online resources, as well as networking through online meetups, social media and in-person events.

According to the statement, rangers in hundreds of communities throughout Canada have constructed more than 7,000 habitat gardens and 91 Butterflyways in their communities during the last six years.

These gardens feed and shelter wild bees and butterflies while also adding to the aesthetic and sustainability of neighbourhoods.

Applications will be accepted on the David Suzuki Foundation website between January 30 and February 13.
