When snow covered Toronto on Monday evening, city authorities are advising citizens to exercise caution.

Overnight, mixed precipitation, perhaps containing ice pellets, was predicted to give way to light snow, drizzle, or freezing drizzle by early Tuesday.

As of 10 p.m. on Monday, Toronto was still under a winter weather travel advisory.

The city recommended citizens to utilise public transportation instead than driving in a winter weather report issued Monday afternoon. It stated that if individuals had to go out on the roadways, they should plan ahead of time and expect slick streets.

The prediction was for five to ten cm of snow. The snowfall was forecast to be heavy at times, according to Environment Canada.

The city says its four warming centres are open and welcoming walk-in customers for persons facing homelessness. The following are the centres:

Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Dr.
Metro Hall, 55 John St.
Mitchell Field Community Centre, 89 Church Ave.
Cecil Community Centre, 58 Cecil St.

The city said its warming centre at Metro Hall has been opened since Feb. 16.
