The Toronto Catholic District School Board meeting on Thursday evening voted on proclaiming Pride Month. According to the organization’s tweet, now the Pride Flag will be flown at the Board office and all TCDSB schools for the entire month of June, starting this year. The decision is meant to show respect and support to all LGBTQ+ students and parents.
Toronto City Councillor Kristyn Wong-Tam has already reacted to the news, celebrating with the words “history is made” and acknowledging the remarkable speeches of students in support of the decision to celebrate Pride Month.
The TCDSB has voted in favor of raising the flag a month after the similar Waterloo Catholic District School Board’s decision, and 10 days after Halton Catholic District School Board voted against raising the flag.
