Trillium Health Partners has received a record contribution for its proposed major hospital redevelopment from a Mississauga-based real estate developer.

According to a Wednesday, March 1 announcement at the Mississauga Hospital, Orlando Corp., a locally based commercial real estate developer and landlord, has given up to $75 million donated towards Trillium’s proposed Peter Gilgan Hospital.

At the announcement, Orlando president Blair Wolk stated that the promise was made possible by the work of the company’s employees.

Trillium president Karli Farrow said the prospective contribution will allow enhanced mental health treatment capacity at the Peter Gilgan location featuring two-floor in-patient facility with 100 adult beds.

Orlando has promised up to $150 million for the big hospital redevelopment, which is expected to be 24 stories tall with 950 beds. It will be erected at Hurontario Street and Queensway West, close to Trillium’s existing Mississauga Hospital campus.

Orlando’s $75 million commitment follows the Peter Gilgan Foundation’s $105 million donation to develop the Mississauga Hospital and Queensway Health Centre in Etobicoke. Gilgan is the founder and CEO of Mattamy Homes, which is one of North America’s leading homebuilder firms.

Orlando Corp. has recently invested in a variety of health-care facilities in the Greater Toronto Area, including $75 million in Scarborough Health Network hospitals and $50 million in the Toronto Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.

Premier Doug Ford, Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie, and Ontario Health Minister Sylvia Jones all spoke during the announcement of the contribution in Orlando.
