Dentist Protest Credential Process in Toronto
On Sunday, dentists who were unable to obtain a licence to operate in Canada gathered in Toronto’s Yonge-Dundas Square to express their anger.
The Internationally Trained Dentists Association of Canada, whose members include dentists with licences to operate in their native countries, coordinated the rally.
The National Dental Examining Board of Canada has an equivalence procedure that foreign dentists must go through (NDEB).
Three tests are part of the board’s approach. If successful, they will next go through the same NDEB certification procedure as Canadians who graduate from recognised institutions. That implies two further exams at that time.
People are criticising not just the arbitrary test requirements, but also the high expenses of the study guides and exam preparation supplies.
Representatives of the Internationally Trained Dentists Association of Canada claimed that making things more equitable rather than simpler can only benefit Canadians.
By 2028, there may be a dental shortage in Canada, predicts the Canadian Occupational Projection System.
