Food for the Record

“Help spin vinyl into food.”

With these words starts the official Instagram account of a charitable organization named “Food for the Record” that has been feeding the homeless and those who are less fortunate almost since the beginning of the pandemic. The story behind the initial idea is a classic example of how a single spark of kindness can change the entire community. Darryl Nielsen, whose life, and business got affected by Covid like many others, suddenly realized that he wanted to bring a change to the lives of those who were in need. Therefore, Mr. Nielsen started donating homemade sandwiches to a church in the neighborhood, and little did he know that his neighbors, moved by this idea, would join him after discovering what he was doing.

Later the movement grew into something even bigger when new volunteers started coming in, and more and more attention was brought to Mr. Nielsen’s goodwill. Currently, the charity encourages people to donate their food in exchange for vinyl records, which are also donated by the community.
