Toronto Woman Starts Female Focused Short-term Rental Platform
A Toronto woman named Yaa Birago founded Femmebnb – which is an alternative to other short-term rental services, for women, by women.
She founded this company, as she had gone to Europe alone for her 30th birthday, only to experience harassment outside of her rental apartment, and received no assistance from her host. Upon talking to other women about her experience, she realized she was not alone, and Femmebnb was born.
Femmebnb has a rigorous verification process, ranging from video calls, government-issued IDs, and proof of property ownership. Her goal is to make women safe and to maximize safety to the best of her abilities. Currently, the screening process for other short-term rental property hosts is lacking, which is what Femmebnb wants to do differently.
